The district police under the leadership of former superintendent of police, Bikaner Dr. Amandeep Singh Kapoor had partnered with Rajasthan Kabir Yatra last year in 2016 to use the community network created by Lokayan and The Kabir Project for community outreach by police in specific and a tool of social change in general.
Conventionally any relation with police is deemed as paternelising but to the contrary the SP, Dr. Kapoor is of the view that was for the first time a symbiotic relationship was being sought where the role of police can be in suggesting locations where communal conflict had taken place or is in spate of radicalization and to utilize the energies of administration to fill in the blanks where communities feel wanting for genuine support. (Bikaner police seriously endeavored and hoped that this event will become an annual event).
We are honored to have partnership with Jodhpur Commissionerate Police, East District Jodhpur, under the leadership of Dr. Amandeep Singh Kapoor (IPS) for th 3rd edition of Rajasthan Kabir Yatra in 2017. This 3rd edition of Rajasthan Kabir Yatra 2017 is aiming to travel around Jodhpur and Barmer region under his leadership to get an opportunity to have "dialogue with people "(what lokayan conceptualizes) and genuinely engage the youth especially through community outreach and create awareness about heritage and culture among them.
"When I came to know about the Yatra, the idea interested me a lot. We decided that the police will suggest some places that are in a state of radicalization after recent communal conflicts. Last year, we were able to gather strong support and could reach out those places in and around Bikaner i.e. Rawwala, ShriDungargarh, Chippon ki Masjid etc where people were in search of some healing after some serious communal disturbance in past. We successfully had strong dialogue with people and could engage the youth in masses. As expected this unique symbiotic partnership created an atmosphere of harmony and hope."
